The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is pleased to join Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bureau of Energy, in presenting the U.S.-Taiwan Solar Energy Promotion Workshop on April 20, 2012.  The forum will highlight the expanding partnership between Taiwan and the United States in the field of solar energy and the many opportunities for cooperation.

The purpose of the event is to discuss policy strategies for creating an environment that encourages wider adoption of solar power by businesses and households.  Clean energy holds the key to preventing the harmful impacts of climate change and must be at the center of any economic development strategy.  Although Taiwan is at the forefront of solar panel production worldwide, solar still remains a small fraction of its electricity generation portfolio.  The workshop will focus on how to change this situation, including discussions on renewable energy portfolios, electricity regulation strategies, public benefit funds, solar business models, and the Renewable Energy Credit Market.

The one-day workshop will feature four speakers from Taiwan and four speakers from the United States.  U.S. speakers include a representative each from the federal and state government, an officer from the American Institute in Taiwan, and a speaker from the financial sector to discuss new financing options for solar projects.  Senior officials from AIT and the BOE will provide opening remarks.
