The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to co-sponsor the 2017 Daniel Pearl World Music Day music festival (DPMD) on September 16, 2017, joining concerts around the world celebrating the power of music to draw people together. Taipei’s Daniel Pearl World Music Day event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Taipei Hakka Cultural Park (No.2, Section 3, Tingzhou Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei).
The festival will feature live musical performances, a vinyl dj stage, NGO booths, and local food and craft vendors. Local and international musicians covering a range of genres, including swing, country, ska, rock & roll, and world music will perform. Independent local artist Jesus Rocks JTP (pigheadskin), popular for his witty and romantic lyrics and performances, will take the stage in the afternoon. For the first time, Taipei’s Daniel Pearl World Music Days musical festival will also feature a West African percussion workshop conducted by the local group KonKonBa.
An accomplished journalist and musician, Daniel Pearl died tragically in 2002 at the hands of terrorists while serving as the South Asia Bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal. To celebrate his life, Pearl’s friends came together in 2002 to launch Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an event that has led to annual worldwide concerts in September and October spreading a message of tolerance, hope, and humanity.
Since its beginning in 2002, Daniel Pearl Music Days has grown internationally to include more than 13,900 performances in 140 countries. Taipei was one of the first cities to participate in this event.
