Deputy United States Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis and officials from USTR and the Departments of State, Commerce, and Agriculture, as well as officials from the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), will now participate in meetings of the U.S.-Taiwan Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council on Sunday, March 10. To accommodate the AIT/USTR delegation’s additional travel requirements, Taiwan authorities have graciously agreed to schedule the TIFA meetings one day earlier.
The meetings are being held under the auspices of the AIT and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO). Members of the delegation will continue to participate in related bilateral meetings on March 11 and 12. The TIFA is the core mechanism through which the United States and Taiwan explore ways to deepen our economic relationship, and Ambassador Marantis is eager to meet with his Taiwanese counterparts.
