On September 27, 28 and 29 a delegation from USTR, the Departments of State, Commerce, and Agriculture, and AIT Washington visited Taipei for meetings with the Taiwan Authorities to discuss the full range of economic and trade issues of importance to both sides, including how to broaden and deepen the bilateral trade and economic relationship. The delegation was led by Eric Altbach, Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for China and Taiwan Affairs.
During the visit, the two sides held constructive and wide-ranging discussions on a wide range of bilateral trade and economic issues of interest to both sides, including agricultural issues, IPR enforcement, investment, services, pharmaceutical products and medical devices, standards, government procurement, and other issues. In addition, the two sides discussed multilateral economic issues, including how to enhance U.S.-Taiwan cooperation to ensure robust outcomes at the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum which will be hosted by the United States in Honolulu, Hawaii this November.
