All services at AIT Taipei and AIT Kaohsiung are by appointment only. Please note that the American Institute in Taipei is a U.S. government facility with strict security procedures about who may enter and what they may bring with them.
Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA): If you plan to submit applications for a CRBA for more than one child, you must book one appointment per child. (Two children = two appointments.)
Notarial Services: If you are requesting more than six notarial services on the same day, you will need to book an additional appointment time. (Six documents or less = one appointment. Seven documents or more = two appointments.)
Passport Applications: If you are submitting passport applications for more than two family members on the same day, you will need to book an additional appointment time. (One or two passport applications = one appointment. Three or more passport applications = two appointments.)
If you need to book more than one appointment on the same day, please add the number “2” after your first name so the system will recognize it as a separate appointment. (If your first appointment is for “Eric”, your second appointment should be “Eric 2”.)

Missed Appointments:
We have a full schedule of appointments every day and usually a number of emergency cases. We regret we are unable to accommodate late arrivals. If you miss your appointment (date or time) you must book a new appointment.
Please be reminded, you will not be admitted more than 10 minutes before or after your scheduled appointment.
Extra People Attending the Appointment:
Because our waiting area is limited, we must ask that people not directly concerned with the service NOT enter AIT. This means that, unless you are signing a document, you are the parents of a minor child who will be receiving a CRBA or a passport, or you are the caregiver for an elderly or handicapped applicant, you should not be coming for the appointment. We discourage the attendance of translators, other family members, babysitters, Taiwan fiancés of “free to wed” affidavit signers, etc. from coming along as they are not required.
Entering AIT:
You should arrive at AIT no more than ten (10) minutes before your scheduled appointment to pass through security. Because our waiting area is limited, we cannot accommodate inside people whose appointment times have not arrived.
Please be reminded, you will not be admitted more than 10 minutes before or after your scheduled appointment.
Changing tables are available in the women’s and men’s room on the third floor. A private room is usually available for nursing.
