Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
An ITIN is a nine-digit number issued by the IRS to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain, a Social Security Number. Use form W-7 to apply for an ITIN.
It is the taxpayer’s obligation to send the completed W-7 to the IRS together with the original or certified/notarized copies of documents substantiating the information provided on the form. For Taiwan nationals resident in Taiwan and who need an ITIN, AIT can provide notary services for you to obtain a Certified True Copy of a Taiwan passport (to attach to the W-7 application).
