The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) cautions U.S. citizens that Typhoon HATO is currently in the western Pacific Ocean southeast of Taiwan. Although Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau (CWB) does not expect Typhoon HATO to make direct landfall in Taiwan, the southern half of the island will likely begin to feel the effects of the storm in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 22. Expect high winds, dangerous storm tides, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding to occur.
All U.S. citizens living in or traveling to the area should monitor local weather reports, follow directions from local officials, and take other appropriate actions as needed. International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT) provides regular weather bulletins in English on 100.7 FM in the Taipei and Kaohsiung areas and on 100.1 FM in Taichung.
