The American Institute in Taiwan today announced that 120 delegates representing 60 companies from industries across Taiwan will travel to Washington, DC, to participate in the SelectUSA Investment Summit (Investment Summit), June 20-22. The Investment Summit, hosted by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, is the highest profile event to connect global companies and U.S. economic development organizations (EDOs) to facilitate foreign direct investment in the United States.
“The Investment Summit is the single best venue for global companies to discover how tax reform, regulatory reduction, and pro-growth Trump Administration policies have made the United States an even more attractive destination for business investment,” said Secretary Ross.
Attendees will hear from government and industry leaders about opportunities in sectors including infrastructure, energy, advanced manufacturing, and, for the first time, the commercial space industry.
This year, the Taiwan delegation represents a variety of industries, including advanced manufacturing, petrochemical, iron and steel, ICT, biotechnology, banking, machinery, aerospace, and franchising. This demonstrates the deep commercial relationship between Taiwan and the United States.
A business delegation of Taiwan executives is being led by Minister without Portfolio John Chen-Chung Deng as a part of the overall delegation to the Investment Summit. AIT is grateful for the strong interest from the Taiwan business community and the partnership with the Taiwan authorities in assembling this important trade delegation. The Investment Summit brings business opportunities and resources from across the United States together in a single place, enabling participants to complete weeks of work in three days.
The United States is currently home to more FDI than any other country in the world, with a total stock of $3.7 trillion at the end of 2016. Taiwan companies currently operating in the United States support nearly 13,100 jobs, invest almost $106 million annually in innovative R&D, and contribute close to $810 million in U.S. goods exports.
Participants from the previous four Summits have announced nearly $93 billion in greenfield investment projects in the United States, supporting more than 140,000 U.S. jobs.
