The United States commends Taiwan for its recent donation to the Pan-American Development Foundation (PADF). These funds will be used to purchase Clinical Care Kits containing personal protective equipment (PPEs) and other essential items to assist the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) in its efforts to prepare for, prevent, and respond to possible outbreaks of Ebola and other infectious diseases. This donation is a reflection of Taiwan’s strong public health capabilities and willingness to make meaningful contributions to global health efforts. It follows Taiwan’s donations last December of 100,000 PPE units to Liberia through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and US$ 1 million to the U.S. Center for Disease Control Foundation’s Ebola response effort. These contributions have played an important part in protecting healthcare workers and preventing and controlling this deadly epidemic. The United States looks forward to continuing to work with Taiwan and other global partners to address the dangers posed by Ebola and other pandemic diseases.
