Remarks by AIT Director Brent Christensen
at the COMIC 2/FORMOSAT-7 launch broadcast event
Tuesday, June 25
President Tsai, Deputy Minister Shieh, Vice President Wu, Director General Lin, distinguished guests, péngyǒumen, dàjiā hǎo!
On behalf of the United States and American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), I am proud to be here today to witness this historical moment and applaud the great work of U.S. and Taiwan scientists, engineers, and academics. When the United States and Taiwan put their minds together, great things happen.
As AIT celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act this year, this launch serves as testimony of our close cooperation and strong partnership in science and technology.
Our shared traditions of innovation and entrepreneurship are ensuring that we all benefit from our ongoing scientific engagement as we face the challenges of the 21st century.
I like to tell everybody wherever I go, Taiwan is a leader in many fields, and has much to offer the international community. Today’s launch demonstrates how Taiwan’s contributions and cutting edge technology extend not just around the world, but also above it.
Again, it is my great honor to join you this afternoon. Let this mark another beginning for a new era of great cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. Wǒ zhùhè dàjiā! Let’s keep reaching for the stars. Thank you!
