Senator Graham, Representative Kao, Minister Deng, Chairman Rice, Chairman Yang, Ladies and Gentlemen.
I regret that I am not able to personally attend today’s event but am delighted that the new project between GE Power and the Taiwan Power Company is being recognized here today.
It is especially gratifying that this is occurring during the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act and the establishment of the American Institute in Taiwan 40 years ago this year.
As many of you may be aware, Taiwan is undergoing an energy transformation with plans to shift a significant portion of its electricity production to natural gas. The United States is eager to be a partner with Taiwan in every step of this transformation. American companies are leaders in production of natural gas, building terminals for the import and export of natural gas, and in building generators that create power from natural gas.
The selection of GE to provide the generators for the Tatan 8 & 9 project is truly a success that the people of Taiwan and the United States may celebrate together. It is my hope that GE and TPC will continue to cooperate on other projects in the future.
In closing, I wish to extend my sincere congratulations to GE, TPC, the people of South Carolina, and the people of Taiwan. I am confident this will be a successful business partnership for all.
