Remarks by AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk
on the Delivery of U.S. Vaccines

November 1, 2021

AIT is very pleased to help facilitate this shipment of 1.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine that is being donated by the U.S. government to the people of Taiwan.  We are proud to be able to add to the 2.5 million doses of Moderna that the United States provided in June. These donations reflect our commitment to Taiwan, a vibrant democracy, valued partner, and trusted friend.  Partners support each other, especially under tough circumstances, and our support for Taiwan, through vaccines or otherwise, is rock solid.  The pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges, and by working together to defeat this pandemic, the United States and Taiwan are proving what we can do when we collaborate to address shared challenges.  For the last few years, AIT and Taiwan have described our relationship as “Real Friends, Real Progress.”  I can’t think of a better way to describe my first three months in Taiwan, and today’s delivery is another great example of our close friendship.
