 (As Prepared for Delivery)

Deputy Minister Hsu, President Wang, Director General Lin, distinguished guests, 朋友們, 大家好!

On behalf of the United States and the American Institute in Taiwan, I am proud to be here today to celebrate the official release of data from the FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2 satellite mission.

Director Christensen witnessed the historic moment last June with President Tsai at a live broadcast of the satellite launch and regrets that he could not be here today as well.

The FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2 satellite mission marks another major milestone in U.S.-Taiwan space cooperation and exemplifies Taiwan’s contribution to the world.

The FORMOSAT/COSMIC satellite program showcases what can be achieved through U.S.-Taiwan science and technology cooperation.  As we often like to say, the United States and Taiwan are “Real Friends” making “Real Progress” together.

I applaud the great work of the scientists, engineers, and academics from the United States and Taiwan who make this extraordinary achievement possible.

The release of the measurement data from this mission will greatly benefit the global scientific community.

By studying the earth’s atmosphere and improving our daily weather predictions, we are impacting the lives of people around the world.

Wherever I go, I always tell people that Taiwan is a leader in many fields and has much to offer the world.  And this satellite mission proves that it’s true.

Again, it is my great honor to join you this afternoon.  Congratulations to everyone who worked on this mission.  We indeed have much to celebrate.

I am confident that the whole world will continue to benefit from the ongoing scientific engagement between the United States and Taiwan, as our most brilliant minds work together to meet the challenges ahead.

Thank you!
