Press Release on GCTF Workshop on Anti-Money Laundering

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) was pleased to co-host with Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MJIB), Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA), and the Australian Office a virtual Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) workshop on anti-money laundering on May 26, 2021.  Since 2018, our annual GCTF series has included a law enforcement-themed workshop.  For today’s workshop, law enforcement professionals from over 30 countries were invited to hear about best practices to combat money laundering from experts from MJIB, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Australian Federal Police, Japan, as well as the Asia/Pacific Group.

AIT Director Brent Christensen joined Justice Minister Tsai Ching-hsiang, Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Tseng, MJIB Director General Leu Wen-jong, JTEA Chief Representative Hiroyasu Izumi, and Australian Office Representative Jenny Bloomfield in delivering opening remarks.

AIT Director Christensen said that “Taiwan’s efforts to fight money laundering have been recognized internationally,” emphasizing that “Taiwan’s willingness to share its expertise on anti-money laundering with friends abroad is yet another example of its many efforts to help tackle global challenges.”
