Pingtung American Shelf Reopens in Pingtung County Library

American Institute in Taiwan Kaohsiung Branch Office (AIT/K) Branch Chief Mason Yu and Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an jointly reopened the Pingtung American Shelf at the newly renovated Pingtung County Library August 28, 2020.

The new American Shelf, features a larger space and enhanced book collection.  AIT will continue to host English storytelling programs and a variety of educational and cultural programming at the American Shelf.  Pingtung American Shelf, first established at the Pingtung County Library in 2015, features books for children and youth on the United States.  The American Shelf aims to foster greater understanding of American culture and society.  It also offers books about the study and teaching of English and materials on studying in the United States through the U.S. government’s official college advising service, EducationUSA.

AIT has established three American Corners in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung.  In 2014, the first American Innovation Center in Asia was inaugurated in Taipei.  AIT has also teamed up with local partners to set up American Shelves in Taoyuan County, Yilan County, Tainan and Pingtung, and cooperated with Commonwealth Magazine Education Foundation to unveil a Mobile American Corner in 2013.
