American Institute in Taiwan/Washington Office

The Board of Trustees of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announced the appointment of Ingrid D. Larson as Managing Director of AIT’s Washington Office in May, 2020.  AIT is a non-profit, private corporation established pursuant to the Taiwan Relations Act to manage the U.S. unofficial relationship with Taiwan.  She is responsible for hosting important visitors from the Taiwan authorities, finalizing programs and transactions on behalf of the U.S. government as empowered by the Taiwan Relations Act, and overseeing fiscal and other reporting requirements for AIT.

Ms. Larson joined AIT after a 22-year career in the State Department.  She served as the Director of the Office of Taiwan Coordination, leading a team responsible for coordination of U.S. policy toward and engagement with Taiwan.  Ms. Larson also worked as the Deputy Director of the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs’ Office of Public Diplomacy, where she helped shape strategic programs for Taiwan and the broader region.  Promoted to the Senior Foreign Service in 2018, her assignments include multiple tours of duty in Washington in addition to overseas posts in Korea, Mexico, China, Tunisia, and Cyprus.  Ms. Larson is from Colorado, graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in International Affairs.  She left the Rocky Mountains to study law at Temple University in Philadelphia, earning a Juris Doctor in 1994.
