Joint AIT and TECRO Media Note on the2021 U.S.-Taiwan Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue

On November 22/23, 2021, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) virtually convened the second U.S.-Taiwan Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue (EPPD).  U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez, Taiwan Minister of Economic Affairs Mei-Hua Wang, and Taiwan Minister of Science and Technology Tsung-Tsong Wu led the dialogue.

During this year’s EPPD, the two sides focused on supply chain resilience, economic coercion, the digital economy and 5G network security, and science and technology, and resolved to continue to deepen cooperation across the full spectrum of economic and commercial issues.  The two sides intend to convene the Digital Economy Forum (DEF) in 2022 under the digital economy workstream of the EPPD.   They also intend to establish a business advisory group, comprised of members chosen by both sides, to provide recommendations to both sides on ways to enhance economic and commercial ties between the United States and Taiwan.

AIT and TECRO expect to convene the first in-person Science and Technology (S&T) meeting under the AIT-TECRO Science and Technology Agreement, anticipated for 2022 in Taipei.

AIT and TECRO expect to reconvene the EPPD in 2022 to further strengthen U.S.-Taiwan economic ties.
