AIT Press Release #: PR-1838

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in conjunction with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), will conduct a second mobile Global Entry enrollment event in Taipei, Taiwan.  The event is to be held at AIT on December 3-6, 2018.

The location of AIT is at No. 7, Ln. 134, Sec. 3, Xinyi Rd., Da’an Dist. Taipei City 10659, Taiwan .

Taiwan passports holders and U.S. citizens in Taiwan may take advantage of this event to conveniently join Global Entry.  Participation in the Global Entry program allows travelers to proceed with little or no delay into the United States.

The Global Entry application fee is $100 for all applicants and is good for five years, after which participants must renew their membership.

To schedule an interview, applicants must be conditionally approved for Global Entry.  Applications for Global Entry must be submitted online no later than November 16, 2018, to have a chance at interviewing in Taiwan.  Note: interview opportunities are limited so apply right away for the best chance at interviewing in Taiwan.  Before applying for Global Entry, Taiwan passport holders must provide a Taiwan Police Report issued within the past 12 months and a current ESTA approval or U.S. visa.

Global Entry interviews in Taiwan will be offered only to participants that have met the following requirements:

  • Applied for Global Entry through the on-line application at CBP’s Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) Website: https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov.
  • Schedule an interview via the TTP website. Once your application is conditionally approved, you will receive an email and a message in your TTP account instructing you to schedule an interview.  Go online and schedule an interview at the American Institute in Taiwan, Taipei.  (If the dates and times available here in Taiwan do not suit your schedule, you can still schedule an appointment at a Global Entry Enrollment Center in the United States or elsewhere, or participate in the Enrollment on Arrival

What is Global Entry?

On November 1, 2017, Taiwan became the 12th partner worldwide and 3rd in East Asia whose passport holders are eligible to enroll in Global Entry.

Currently available at 54 U.S. airports and 15 Preclearance locations around the world, Global Entry streamlines the international arrivals process at airports for trusted travelers. More than 4.7 million Global Entry members bypass traditional CBP inspection lines and use an automated kiosk to complete their admission to the United States. As an added benefit, Global Entry members are also eligible to participate in the TSA Pre✓™ expedited screening program.

U.S. citizens and U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents may apply for Global Entry as well as passport holders from Argentina, Colombia, Germany, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and now Taiwan. Canadian citizens and residents enrolled in NEXUS may also use the Global Entry kiosks.

How Does the Global Entry Program Work?

Interested travelers apply through the Trusted Traveler Programs website. The non-refundable application fee for a five-year Global Entry membership is $100 and applications must be submitted online. Once the applicant successfully passes a background check, a CBP officer will conduct an interview with the applicant at one of the more than 100 Global Entry Enrollment Centers located throughout the U.S., Canada, and Qatar, or at an Enrollment on Arrival location and then make a final eligibility determination. Special interviews will be offered at AIT from December 3-6, 2018.

While the goal of Global Entry is to speed travelers through the process, members may be selected for further examination when entering the United States. Any violation of the program’s terms and conditions will result in appropriate enforcement action and may result in the revocation of the traveler’s membership privileges.

Notes for Taiwan Passport Holders

Before starting your TTP online application, first gather the required documents and information.  You will need:

  • A Taiwan Police Criminal Record Certificate (良民證) issued not more than 12 months prior to submitting your Global Entry application. The online application requires that you include the document number (文號) from the police report;
  • Your current, valid Taiwan passport;
  • Your current, valid ESTA approval or U.S. visa (Global Entry does NOT replace Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) or visa requirements; while you do not need to update ESTA information in the TPP system, you will need to maintain updated visa (if needed) and passport information);
  • One other form of photo identification (for example, driver’s license or ID card); and
  • Your National ID Number (listed as “Personal ID Number” in your passport).

Notes for All

If a Global Entry member obtains a new passport or has other updates to information that was included in the Global Entry application, the member will be required to update the new information in the TTP account.  Name changes, new visas, and additional passports must be updated or added in person at an enrollment center.  If the visa information is incomplete or not properly updated with CBP, the Global Entry kiosk may incorrectly calculate the member’s Class of admission and admission date.  It is NOT necessary to update ESTA information through your TTP account.

Visit CBP’s Global Entry website for more information on the Global Entry Program.
