From October 23-25, an expert-level delegation from USTR, the Departments of Commerce, Agriculture, and State, as well as AIT Washington visited Taipei for meetings with the Taiwan authorities to discuss a full range of trade issues of importance to both sides, as well as to exchange views on possible next steps to broaden and deepen the bilateral trade and economic relationship, including with regard to the US-Taiwan Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
This delegation, led by Mr. Eric Altbach, Deputy Assistant USTR, follows early-September meetings in Vladivostok between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Vice President Lien Chan and Deputy US Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis and Minister of Economic Affairs Shih Yen-Shiang where the two sides agreed to hold expert-level engagement on bilateral trade issues.
