History
As National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) moves into the 21st century, it has taken the initiative to establish a Resource Center for the study of the United Sates. This Center fits the University’s goals and explores new strategies, partucularly through digital information technologies in developing an international academic unit.
The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) has recognized this leadership and has committed its resources to help in the formation and opration of the Center. Named after Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the America Center (SYSAC) in Kaohsiung wishes to serve all the institutions of higher learning in Taiwan, particularly Networking Information Culture Center (UNIC), serving both regional and international linkages.
Facilities
The Sun Yat-sen America Center is located on the fourth floor of the University Library. The Center works closely with a variety of university programs, including the University Library and Computer Center. The Center’s resources will include a selection of print and microform materials and more importantly, a well-equipped virtual reference library. Patrons are welcome to use our PC Network to tap into local, regional and international networks for research purposes, participating in online discussion groups, and accessing electronic bulletin boards.
Staff members are happy to guide patrons in the use of the center’s facilities and in accessing all types of information. The Center’s friendly environment not only supplies an ideal location for research, but also a “people place” where both technology and humanity meet.
