Erich Kuss Assumes Duties as AIT’s Agricultural Section Chief

A career foreign service officer within the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service, Erich Kuss arrived in Taiwan in July 2021 to begin his posting as Chief of the Agricultural Section at the American Institute in Taiwan.  Prior to his posting in Taiwan, Mr. Kuss most recently served as Acting Minister-Counselor for Agricultural Affairs in Mexico City.

Mr. Kuss joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1999 and has held multiple positions throughout the world.  He has served as the Director for Agricultural Trade in Mexico City, as USDA Representative for Cuba and as Agricultural Counselor for USDA with coverage of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama.  Within Asia, Mr. Kuss served four years as the Director of the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office in Hong Kong.  Additional positions include serving as Senior Agricultural Attaché in the Office of Agricultural Affairs in Mexico City, and Agricultural Attaché in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  He has also held various positions in Washington, D.C. including Senior Advisor for Pakistan and Afghanistan Agricultural Affairs, Economist for Latin American Trade Policy, and Commodity Analyst.  Prior to joining USDA, Mr. Kuss spent three years as an economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics at the U.S. Department of Labor.
