On November 16, Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Taiwan representative Vincent Siew at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Manila.
During their meeting, Deputy Secretary Blinken expressed continued U.S. support for Taiwan’s economic strength and prosperity and continued economic and commercial cooperation between the people of the United States and the people on Taiwan. Deputy Secretary Blinken noted that the United States looks forward to working with Taiwan authorities to resolve outstanding trade issues, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Deputy Secretary Blinken noted his appreciation for efforts to improve cross-Strait relations, including the recent meeting between Presidents Ma and Xi.
