The Anti-Nuclear Power Alliance and other civil organizations will jointly hold mass rallies in Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung and Taitung in the afternoon of Saturday, March 14, 2015. The police anticipate that more than 10,000 protesters will show up to the Taipei rally.
In Taipei, at 14:00, protesters will assemble at Katagalan Avenue. Then, set off at 15:00 from the assembly point and march on the sidewalks that surround the neighborhood of President’s Office. Rally will come back to Katagalan Ave, in front of the President’s Office, at around 17:00 to hold an evening event. The Taipei rally is scheduled to end at 21:30. Large crowds and traffic congestion are anticipated at all points along the route and intersections.

Taiwan is a modern democracy with vibrant public participation. Political demonstrations are common, especially around election time. Since Taiwan democratized in the early 1990s, there have been very few cases of violence associated with political demonstrations. But even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational. You should avoid areas of demonstrations if possible and exercise caution if within the vicinity of any political demonstrations. The American Citizens Services Unit of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) will post notices regarding demonstrations in Taiwan on the AIT website whenever it receives reliable information about them. In most cases, AIT will not send out an Emergency or Security Message when it has information on a planned demonstration.
