The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and our partners are pleased to present the “American Footsteps in Taiwan, 1950-1980” tour exhibit at the National Taiwan Library in New Taipei City July 8 to August 21, 2011.
AIT Deputy Director Eric Madison will unveil the exhibit at the opening ceremony, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. on July 8 at the National Taiwan Library in New Taipei City.
The exhibit reflects the close personal ties forged between Americans and the people of Taiwan during a turbulent historical period in the key era of 1950 to 1980. In addition to the display of a large number of vintage photographs, historic artifacts, documentaries and oral interviews, the exhibit looks back to the relationship between U.S. aid and Taiwan’s development of its economy, military forces, public health, healthcare, culture, and education.
The National Taiwan Library, the oldest public library in Taiwan, has the largest collection of Taiwan historical documents, books and publications. Some historical publications during that period will be displayed in the New Taipei City Exhibit. The National Taiwan Library is located in the 823 Memorial Park, which commemorates the the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1958. Some related photos are displayed in the exhibit.
