In cooperation with the National Museum of Prehistory and the Sun Yat-sen America Center located at National Sun Yat-sen University, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Office is pleased to announce the opening of “The American Dream: Stories of Taiwan Residents who Studied in the United States.” This exciting exhibition will be shown at the National Museum of Prehistory from September 12 to November 24.
An official opening ceremony will be held on September 12, at 10:30 a.m., with the participation of AIT Director Christopher J. Marut, AIT Kaohsiung Branch Chief Gary Oba, National Museum of Prehistory Director Chang Shan-nan and National Sun Yat-sen University President Yang Hung-dun. All media members are invited to the opening ceremony. The National Museum of Prehistory is located at 1, Museum Road, Taitung, and its opening hours are 9:00-17:00, from Tuesday to Sunday.
The central theme of the exhibit is the history and flow of Taiwan students who have gone to the United States to study and what this has meant for Taiwan’s development. While our earlier “American Footsteps” exhibit explored the impact of Americans in Taiwan, this follow-on exhibit highlights the “footsteps” of significant figures from Taiwan who studied in the United States. Through this exhibition, viewers will gain a deeper understanding of the significant contributions and immense impact on Taiwan’s development made by Taiwan students who gained knowledge and skills in the United States.
Conceived and coordinated by AIT Kaohsiung Branch Office and the Sun Yat-sen America Center, this exhibit has been a year in the making and involved extensive research and preparation by a host of contributors, including a number of America Center student volunteers. Support provided by the China Steel Corporation, Chen Chi-chuan Culture Foundation, Corning Display Technologies, ETS Taiwan Office, and O-Ta Precision Industry Co. Ltd, has helped make this exhibit possible.
