In cooperation with the Tainan City Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Sun Yat-sen America Center located at National Sun Yat-sen University, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Office is pleased to announce the opening of “The American Dream: Stories of Taiwan Residents who Studied in the United States”, an unprecedented museum exhibition at the Tainan Creativity Center from March 14 to May 15. An official opening ceremony will be held on March 14, at 2:30 p.m., with the participation of AIT Director Christopher Marut, AIT Kaohsiung Branch Chief Gary Oba, Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te and National Sun Yat-sen University International Affairs Office Director Kuo Chih-wen. All media members are invited to the opening ceremony. The creativity center is located at No. 197, Sec. 1, Fuqian Road, Tainan City, and its opening hours are 9:00-17:00 daily.
The central theme of the exhibit is the history and flow of Taiwan students who have gone to the United States to study and what this has meant for Taiwan’s development. While our earlier “American Footsteps” exhibit explored the impact of Americans in Taiwan, this follow-on exhibit highlights the “footsteps” of significant figures from Taiwan who studied in the United States. Through this exhibition, viewers will gain a deeper understanding of the significant contributions and immense impact on Taiwan’s development made by Taiwan students who gained knowledge and skills in the United States.
Conceived and coordinated by AIT Kaohsiung Branch Office and the Sun Yat-sen America Center, this exhibit has been a year in the making and involved extensive research and preparation by a host of contributors, including a number of America Center student volunteers. Support provided by the China Steel Corporation, Chen Chi-chuan Culture Foundation, Corning Display Technologies, ETS Taiwan Office, and O-Ta Precision Industry Co. Ltd, has helped make this exhibit possible.
