In cooperation with the Kaohsiung Museum of History and the Sun Yat-sen America Center located at National Sun Yat-sen University, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Office is pleased to announce the upcoming opening of “The American Dream: Stories of Taiwan Residents who Studied in the United States”, an unprecedented museum exhibition at the Kaohsiung Museum of History from March 15 to August 12. An official opening ceremony will be held on March 22, at 2:30 p.m., with the participation of AIT Director William Stanton, AIT Kaohsiung Branch Chief Gary Oba, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu and National Sun Yat-sen University President Yang Hong-deun. All media members are invited to the opening ceremony. The museum is located at 272, Zhong Zheng 4th Road, Yen Cheng District, Kaohsiung, and its opening hours are 9:00-17:00, Tuesday through Friday.
The central theme of the exhibit is the history and flow of Taiwan students who have gone to the United States to study and what this has meant for Taiwan’s development. While our earlier “American Footsteps” exhibit explored the impact of Americans in Taiwan, this follow-on exhibit highlights the “footsteps” of significant figures from Taiwan who studied in the United States. Through this exhibition, viewers will gain a deeper understanding of the significant contributions and immense impact on Taiwan’s development made by Taiwan students who gained knowledge and skills in the United States.
Conceived and coordinated by AIT Kaohsiung Branch Office and the Sun Yat-sen America Center, this exhibit has been a year in the making and involved extensive research and preparation by a host of contributors, including a number of America Center student volunteers. The Kaohsiung History Museum has provided significant support in bringing the exhibition to fruition. Support provided by the China Steel Corporation, Chen Chi-chuan Culture Foundation, Corning Display Technologies, ETS Taiwan Office, and O-Ta Precision Industry Co. Ltd, has helped make this exhibit possible.
