Ambassador James Moriarty, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), is visiting Taiwan from October 23-29, 2016.
This is Ambassador Moriarty’s first trip to Taiwan since his appointment as AIT Chairman. While in Taiwan, he will meet Taiwan officials and other leaders to exchange views on subjects of mutual interest to the United States and Taiwan.
Ambassador Moriarty brings decades of experience in Asia, including Taiwan, at the senior leadership levels in the U.S. government and the private sector. In his U.S. government career, Ambassador Moriarty served as U.S. ambassador to Bangladesh and Nepal, Special Assistant to the President of the United States, Senior Director for Asia at the National Security Council, and Director for China Affairs at the National Security Council. He led the political section at the American Institute in Taiwan from 1995 to 1998. Since retiring from the Foreign Service in 2011, Ambassador Moriarty has worked in the private sector and as an independent consultant.
