The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) cautions U.S. citizens that Typhoon Maria is currently in the western Pacific Ocean southeast of Taiwan. Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued a sea warning for Typhoon Maria at 2:30 p.m. local time July 9 and is planning to issue a land warning either late evening July 9 or early morning July 10.
This severe typhoon is strengthening and moving fast toward Taiwan with probability of heavy rain in the northern, eastern, and central regions and will affect northern and eastern Taiwan between the evening of July 10 and the morning of July 11.
All U.S. citizens living in or traveling to the area should monitor local weather reports, follow directions from local officials, and take other appropriate actions as needed. International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT) provides regular weather bulletins in English on 100.7 FM in the Taipei and Kaohsiung areas and on 100.1 FM in Taichung.
