AIT and TECRO Senior Representatives Celebrate
Taiwan’s Contribution to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS
WASHINGTON — At a December 15 ceremony hosted by the American Institute in Taiwan in Washington, D.C., Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) Representative Bi-khim Hsiao, American Institute in Taiwan-Washington Managing Director Ingrid Larson, U.S. Department of State Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs Deputy Assistant Secretary Rick Waters, and acting Deputy Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Douglas Hoyt celebrated TECRO’s $500,000 contribution to support stabilization programs in communities impacted by ISIS in northeast Syria.
TECRO’s contribution will build the capacity of civil society to effectively respond to needs of Syrians, including access to essential services, the promotion of peace and reconciliation, the empowerment of members of minority groups and vulnerable communities, contributing to the formation of pluralistic, democratic values in Syria. With TECRO’s donation, this program can continue its vital work to revitalize and strengthen civil society in northeast Syria. This work includes initiatives such as providing in-kind grants to entrepreneurs and existing business owners in northeast Syria as well as empowering the role and participation of youth in responding to social and political issues.
During today’s ceremony, Managing Director Larson thanked Representative Hsiao, and Deputy Assistant Secretary Waters highlighted the importance of TECRO’s contribution to support the Coalition’s goals. Acting Deputy Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Hoyt added that “TECRO’s contribution in support of the D-ISIS Coalition’s goals provides critical funding to ongoing civil society programming and its mission of supporting Syrian civil society organizations.”
