AIT and TAITRA Co-host the First-ever Taiwan Session of
the Indo-Pacific Business Forum:
“Taiwan Model on COVID-19: Forging Public Private Partners in the Medical Industry”
This afternoon, AIT co-hosted with TAITRA a session of the Indo-Pacific Business Forum (IPBF) entitled “Taiwan Model on COVID-19: Forging public private partners in the medical industry.” During the session, representatives of Taiwan’s public and private sectors discussed how Taiwan marshalled its public health and private sector resources to successfully mitigate the COVID-19 risk to Taiwan’s communities. The event also highlighted Taiwan’s central role in creating reliable global supply chains for medical equipment and other critical goods and services. TAITRA President James Huang, representatives from PPE manufacturer Mytrex and ICT supplier Wistron, and AIT Director Brent Christensen spoke at the event.
In his remarks, Director Christensen said: “Taiwan has distinguished itself as a trusted supplier of critical materials such as medical equipment…Taiwan mobilized its industry, becoming the world’s largest manufacturer of surgical masks for a time. While Taiwan’s ability to provide for itself is admirable, Taiwan’s assistance to many countries, including the United States, during this crisis is even more inspiring.”
This was the first Taiwan-hosted session since the creation of the IPBF in 2018. Over the past two years, IPBF has become the leading event to promote trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the United States and its partners throughout the Indo-Pacific. Discussions at this year’s Forum’s feature the very latest developments on the business environments for key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, digital economy, healthcare, along with policy recommendations and new opportunities for expanded public-private partnerships.
