AIT Participation in GCTF on Austronesian Languages in Palau
The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is pleased to co-host the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) International Austronesian Languages Revitalization Forum with Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Council of Indigenous Peoples, and the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, to be held on September 29 in Koror, Palau.
This will be the first GCTF workshop to take place outside of Taiwan. It will feature speakers and participants from nine countries to discuss the preservation and revitalization of Austronesian languages and culture.
Established in 2015, the GCTF is a platform that enables Taiwan to share its expertise with governmental and non-governmental partners in the Indo-Pacific region and the international community through trainings and workshops. Hundreds of practitioners from around the region and beyond have been trained in a variety of topics, including public health, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, law enforcement, media literacy, and women’s leadership and empowerment.
AIT remains committed to supporting Taiwan in its efforts to play a more active role in the international community as a responsible global citizen. As Vice President Mike Pence said, “America will always believe Taiwan’s embrace of democracy is an example to be internationally supported.” U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has also previously stated that “Taiwan is a democratic success story, a reliable partner, and a force for good in the world.”
