The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is honored to join the I-Lan City Library to launch the “Portable Mobile Library” to enhance the I-Lan American Shelf services and to further support elementary schools in I-Lan.
AIT Public Affairs Section Chief Sheila Paskman presented the new “Portable Mobile Library” project in the book presentation ceremony at the I-Lan City Library on October 1, 2010. Under the project, AIT will provide five boxes of children’s English books for loans to I-Lan elementary schools. Each box contains over 100 easy-to-read English books and each school will be able to borrow a box for one semester.
The American Shelf in I-Lan City Library, established in 2009, introduces users to American society and culture via its collection of books, pamphlets, and DVDs. AIT has cooperated closely with the I-Lan City Library on conducting various programs including English story-telling, NASA poster exhibition, and Picturing America exhibition.
I-Lan City Mayor Huang Ting-ho expressed support for the Portable Mobile Library project. “We believe the valuable resources in the I-Lan American Shelf will help residents here to widen their reach to the world through reading.”
