Kin Moy, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan, is honored to be leading a delegation from Taiwan to the third SelectUSA Investment Summit that will take place in Washington, DC, June 19 – June 21, 2016. We are particularly pleased to have a business delegation of Taiwan executives led by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman Francis Liang as an integral part of our overall delegation to the SelectUSA Summit. The delegation from Taiwan will include 68 representatives from 47 Taiwan companies, MOEA’s agencies, and organizations. Ms. Ireas Cook, Chief of AIT’s Commercial Section, will also accompany the delegation.
President Barack Obama recognized foreign direct investment plays a critical role in the U.S. economy and launched SelectUSA, the first-ever U.S. government-wide initiative to promote and facilitate investment in the United States. Reflecting Taiwan’s investment role, the Department of Commerce has designated Taiwan as a priority market under the SelectUSA investment initiative.
The third Investment Summit’s theme is “The Innovation Advantage” and will feature investment opportunities from every corner of the United States for global investors, while high-profile business and government leaders will share their insights on the latest innovation and trends. The Summit will connect both domestic and foreign companies with local, state, and regional economic development organizations in an effort to promote investment and support jobs in the United States. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew are scheduled to deliver welcome remarks on June 20 and June 21, respectively. President Obama will deliver the keynote speech; meanwhile other scheduled speakers include Secretary of State John F. Kerry, and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack.
The SelectUSA Academy, designed for first-time investors to build a winning strategy for investment in the United States, is scheduled for the day before the Summit.
President Obama and five U.S. Cabinet Members made it clear during the inaugural Summit in 2013 that the United States is not only “Open for Business,” but warmly welcomes foreign investors to operate in our transparent, stable, and open system.
AIT is grateful for the strong interest from the Taiwan business community, and the partnership with the Taiwan authorities, as well as TAITRA, in assembling this important trade delegation.
