AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk’s October 15 Meetings in Kaohsiung
On October 15, American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Sandra Oudkirk took her first trip as Director to southern Taiwan, visiting the city of Kaohsiung. Director Oudkirk engaged in introductory meetings with key leaders to exchange views on issues of mutual importance to both the United States and Taiwan.
Director Oudkirk met with Ocean Affairs Council Deputy Ministers Chou Wu-mei and Tsai Ching-piao to discuss U.S. cooperation with Taiwan’s coast guard, and shared efforts to promote sustainable ocean stewardship that preserves biodiversity and builds healthy coastal communities. Director Oudkirk then took part in a guided tour of the Kaohsiung Harbor, hosted by Taiwan International Ports Corporation Chairman Lee Hsien-Yi, to learn about future investment and development plans for Taiwan’s largest port.
During these meetings, Director Oudkirk reiterated her commitment to advancing and deepening the U.S.-Taiwan partnership, stressed the common democratic and economic values that the United States and Taiwan share, and emphasized the United States’ enduring commitment to Taiwan.
