AIT co-sponsors 2017 Jazz Camp at Fu-Jen University

The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to co-sponsor the Second Annual 2017 Fu-Jen Catholic University Jazz Camp, beginning on Friday, 20 January, 2017 and continuing for five days, through Tuesday, 24 January, 2017. The Gala Concert will be held on Tuesday, 24 January 2017, at 5:30 pm, in the Fu-Jen Department of Music Recital Hall. AIT Director Kin Moy will attend the concert and deliver remarks to congratulate the musicians on their successful completion of the camp.

The Jazz Camp is open to students, music educators, and local musicians. Selected musicians will be placed in jazz improvisation classes, and master classes on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, double and electric guitar, and drum set, commensurate with their ability levels. In addition, all attendees will perform in a jazz combo as well as a jazz big band. Through clinics, master classes, rehearsals, and the performances this camp promotes the American cultural legacy of jazz and engages youth from around Taiwan.

The Gala Concert is open to anyone, free of charge, who wishes to attend. The 2017 Fu-Jen Catholic University Jazz Camp is co-sponsored by the American Institute of Taiwan, Jazz Education Abroad, Antigua Musical Instruments, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Books, Los Angeles College of Music, Dixon Drums, D’Addario Woodwinds, and AMC.

“AIT is delighted to support this camp which creates an opportunity for Taiwan’s young jazz instrumentalists, music educators, and international clinicians to advance musical skills. It is also a chance for Taiwan’s young musicians to be inspired by jazz music. Jazz is a uniquely American music that reflects the diversity of the United States” remarked AIT Cultural Affairs Officer and Director of the AIT American Center Alys Spensley.
