Raymond F. Burghardt, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), will arrive in Taipei on Monday, November 29, and stay until Saturday, December 4, 2010.
This is Mr. Burghardt’s ninth trip to Taiwan since his appointment as AIT’s Chairman in February of 2006. While in Taiwan, he will meet with President Ma Ying-jeou, Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng and a variety of major figures in politics and business. He will also give a speech at the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei.
Mr. Burghardt was the Director of AIT’s Taipei office from 1999 to 2001. His distinguished career in public service has included assignments as the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam and as the U.S. Consul General in Shanghai, as well as postings at U.S. embassies in Asia and Latin America. In Washington, he served on the staff of the National Security Council. He is currently the Director of East-West Seminars at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, a position he holds concurrently with his AIT position.
