AIT Celebrates Innovation and Entrepreneurship Month in November
As part of our yearlong campaign celebrating forty years of U.S.-Taiwan friendship and cooperation, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is pleased to name November AIT@40 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Month. Each month of 2019 will feature a different theme, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the growing U.S.-Taiwan partnership.
In honor of AIT@40 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Month, AIT is pleased to announce a series of events that underscore the strong cooperation ties that bind the United States and Taiwan.
The pre-requisite for innovation cooperation is strong cybersecurity to protect intellectual property and trade secrets. Towards this end, for the first time ever, the United States and Taiwan will be co-organizing this year’s Cyber Offensive and Defensive Exercises starting on November 4th.
The key to entrepreneurship and innovation cooperation is robust circulation of business and scientific talent between the United States, Taiwan, and other like-minded economies. On November 5, AIT and the Taiwan Authorities will be organizing a large-scale Talent Circulation Summit at Nangang Expo Hall 2, expected to bring together more than 1,000, including Vice President Chen Chien-jen and TSMC Founder Morris Chang, around a single theme: Internationalization of Taiwan’s workforce for the digital age. On November 7th, at the American Innovation Center, AIT will be organizing the 3rd Public Forum for our Digital Dialogue series. The Digital Dialogues provide an on-line platform for Taiwan’s general public to engage with AIT on the most significant policy matters affecting the U.S.-Taiwan relationship. The 3rd Public Forum will look at U.S.-Taiwan security cooperation, including arms sales. Please register here to attend the Public Forum.
During the week of November 12-14, Representatives from the Port of San Diego will be visiting Taiwan to forge closer ties between U.S. and Taiwan ports to jointly develop ocean economy innovations, in particular with respect to circular economy solutions to marine debris. Additionally, on November 14, Acting Director Raymond Greene will be giving opening remarks at Meet Taipei, East Asia’s largest startup expo, to highlight the ever closer U.S.-Taiwan startup cooperation through the U.S.-Taiwan SME Work Plan.
The United States and Taiwan close cooperation on biomedical innovation will be on full display at the 2019 U.S.-Taiwan Liver Health Forum on November 15. It’s not a topic that gets a lot of headlines, but thousands of lives are made better every year due to this cooperation.
As part of the U.S.-Taiwan StartOpps initiative, which aims to integrate the startup ecosystems of the U.S., Taiwan, and Southeast Asia, and in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, more than 20 highly successful women entrepreneurs from ASEAN countries will be coming to Taiwan to learn about Taiwan’s well developed women entrepreneur ecosystem and support structures and to network with women leaders here in Taiwan. They will attend the SME Leadership Conference organized jointly by AIT and the Small and Medium-Enterprise Administration on November 19-21 which will focus on entrepreneurial mentorship as well as meet with startup ecosystem leaders throughout Taiwan.
On November 21-22 at Huashan Creative Park, AIT is organizing with Legislator Karen Yu and the National Development Council the 1st Annual Talent Circulation Alliance Women’s Empowerment Expo. The Expo will bring together leaders of women’s associations from more than 10 countries, and provide an opportunity for those interested to become involved with the activities of these empowerment initiatives. The month’s activities will conclude on November 22 when AIT Director Christensen will give his final major policy address of the AIT@40 campaign, where he will discuss in detail closer U.S.-Taiwan people to people exchange, including for entrepreneurs and innovators.
As Taiwan transitions to an innovation-based economy, the United States looks forward to ever deeper entrepreneurship and innovation cooperation. Together, we will build the digital future.
