Between November 16 and 20, 2015, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) will celebrate International Education Week (IEW). IEW is an annual, joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State that promotes educational programs to prepare Americans for an increasingly interconnected world and seeks to attract people from abroad for study, learning, and exchange experiences in the United States. This year’s theme, “Access for All,” highlights long-standing U.S. policy to welcome international students and young people to the United States in order to advance their professional and academic goals, and develop the people-to-people relationships that are necessary to solve global challenges.
Education is an important link between the United States and Taiwan. Taiwan remains among the top ten senders of international students to the United States. EducationUSA, in partnership with AIT, provides potential students and their parents with accurate information about studying in the United States. The EducationUSA Advising Center (www.educationusa.tw) is located at the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange in Taipei (www.fulbright.org.tw). During International Education Week 2015, EducationUSA will showcase its promotional videos, and have information available to interested students at its Advising Center, at the American Innovation Center in Taipei, and at AIT’s American Corners (http://www.americancorner.org.tw/). EducationUSA advisers will also travel to selected university campuses in Taiwan to talk directly with students.
During IEW, AIT will also host or participate in many other education-related events. Please visit AIT’s IEW page for the full schedule of events and program details visit: http://www.ait.org.tw/zh/iew2015.html (Chinese) or http://www.ait.org.tw/en/iew2015.html (English).

• NEW! AIT Movie Night: AIT is launching a new Movie Night series. Once a month, AIT will screen a U.S. film related to some aspect of studying in the United States. Come celebrate the end of mid-terms with us! The first screening will be November 20, 2015, 18:00 – 20:30 at the American Center in downtown Taipei. Our first AIT Movie Night film is “Glory Road.” The movie is based on the true story of a white coach at a small state school in Texas, who formed an all-black basketball team that beat all-white teams to play in the 1966 NCAA championship game. This movie touches on issues of racial diversity and the role of sports in academics. At the end of a busy week, join us to watch a movie. AIT’s Acting American Center Director Jesse Curtis will lead the after-movie discussion.
