PR-0948E | The Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) of the American Institute in Taiwan, in cooperation with the Taichung City Government, US Meat Export Federation, Kraft Foods, Delta/Northwest Airlines and other cosponsors will bring the 2006 International Blues Challenge Champion, Joey Gilmore, to Taiwan to perform live blues and promote American style BBQ at venues around the island. This will include the opening weekend of the 2009 Taichung Jazz Festival from October 17-18. The American BBQ & Blues Pavilion at the J1 stage on Jingkuo Boulevard at the Taichung Jazz Festival, will offer an enticing array of American BBQ products, beer and spirits.

“This is the first time AIT has taken the initiative to link an American food promotion with live American blues music. Blues and BBQ go hand in hand in the United States,” says Keith Schneller, the Director of AIT’s Agricultural Trade Office. “Later this month, Taiwan consumers can enjoy performances by blues champion, Joey Gilmore, and taste traditional American BBQ specialties at venues in Taipei and Taichung.”

In addition, the ATO, along with Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Hotel Taipei and Hotel ONE Taichung are launching special menu promotions to celebrate American BBQ & Blues Month. Chef David Ansted from Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Hotel Taipei selected Texas and Memphis, Tennessee barbecue styles for his menu. Chef Nick Alvarez from Hotel ONE Taichung will prepare a Memphis Style Smoked barbecued beef using a Tennessee whisky-glazed BBQ sauce with a touch of coffee. During the promotion, any consumer who orders from an American BBQ special menu can participate in a lucky draw for a chance to win Delta/Northwest Airline tickets and gift certificates from participating hotels and restaurants.
