Acting Assistant Secretary for International Markets
at the U.S. Department of the Treasury
to visit Taipei July 17-18
Mitchell Silk, Acting Assistant Secretary for International Markets at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, will visit Taipei July 17-18, 2019, to propose ideas for developing domestic and regional energy and infrastructure markets as part of the Indo-Pacific vision’s Asia EDGE initiative and the Infrastructure Transaction and Assistance Network (ITAN). This will be Mr. Silk’s first visit to Taiwan in his capacity as Acting Assistant Secretary.
Acting Assistant Secretary Silk will meet with Taiwan’s economic, finance, energy, and infrastructure authorities, as well as U.S. and Taiwan industry groups, to engage on topics such as debt market development, increasing private sector participation in projects, and promoting competitive procurement. Mr. Silk will be accompanied by David Gottfried, the Deputy Director of the Office of Investment, Energy, and Infrastructure in the International Affairs division of the U.S. Treasury.
Prior to joining the U.S. Treasury in October 2017, Mr. Silk had a 30-year legal career where he developed expertise in energy and infrastructure matters, asset management, banking and finance, and China and Asia, as well as growth capital matters involving technology with disruptive applications in energy and infrastructure. He has advised related projects in these sectors in addition to advising foreign banks. Mr. Silk has spent over 15 years of his professional career in East Asia, and worked on a number of Taiwan’s landmark energy projects with foreign investment. He speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.
