The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to sponsor the 2015 Daniel Pearl Day of Music, a free outdoor concert taking place on Saturday, September 26th from 2:00-21:30 p.m. at the Taipei Hakka Cultural Park, No.2, Section 3, Tingzhou Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei.
The concert will commemorate the life of Daniel Pearl, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal who died tragically on assignment in 2002. Daniel’s friends and family gather each October to host a remarkable series of concerts celebrating his life and “Harmony for Humanity.”
An accomplished journalist and musician, Daniel Pearl lends his name to an event that is now regarded as one of the longest running and best known network of international concerts, comprising more than 13,000 performances in more than 130 countries and areas. Each event held around the world harnesses the power of music to promote harmony and mutual understanding.
In keeping with tradition, the Taipei event is free to the general public. More than a dozen local and foreign musical groups will perform on two outdoor stages, encompassing a wide range of music ranging from folk, rock, blues, dance, African, and Latin-American music as well as Hakka folk music.
Our featured performer this year will be Golden Melody winner, Ayugo Huang, who will perform with his five piece acoustic band. Huang is best known for his work with Bobby Chen through his solo album “Shan Ge Yi Tiao Lu” which was awarded“Best Hakka Album” at the Golden Melody Awards held at the end of June this year. Other musical groups performing include Afroholique, La Cumbia Del Sol, Red Cliff, Danubak, Shakaboom, Blind Acid Date, Soup Mother, Cosmic Inversion, Poor House, Kon Kon Ba, Flat Fives, Point22, and more.
In addition to the music, a number of local restaurants will be at the day-long event serving food and drink. Also a number of NGOs and community-based organizations will be on hand. The popular Mobile American Corner, equipped with books, digital monitor and iPads on a truck, will also be displayed on site to provide extensive resources and information about American culture and education.
